Tony Attah: Chief Executive Officer, Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited

Tony Attah is currently the Chief Executive Officer at Renaissance, a Nigerian consortium that was acquired in a deal valued at $2.4 billion. He was the former Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria LNG and the Vice President of Bonny Gas Transport. Tony has over three decades of experience in the Oil and Gas Industry. Before his role at Nigeria LNG Limited, he was the Managing Director and Board Chairman of Shell Nigeria E & P Company SNEPCo, Vice President HSE and Corporate Affairs, Vice President Human Resources (HR) as well as other technical & non-technical roles in Operations and major projects including being the head of Joint Venture Economics in the commercial function.

While serving with NLNG, Tony successfully leveraged the support of internal and external stakeholders including the Federal Government of Nigeria and Royal Dutch Shell to deliver NLNG’s $10bln growth agenda through the Train 7 Final Investment Decision to grow capacity by 35% from 22MTPA to 30MPTA helping the company retain its competitive position within the global LNG Market.

He was able to manage the NLNG business over the last three years with a Balance Sheet of about $12billion, 1200 direct employees, plus over 5,000 contractor and support services personnel and a whole range of external stakeholders including government and local communities.

Tony sustained Embedment of Safety and Safety Leadership Culture with a declared future of making NLNG an “Incident and Injury-Free” world-class company with Safety GOAL ZERO as a “State of Being”.

Tony began his academic voyage at the GCE – Government Secondary School, Azare, Bauchi State where he finished in 1982 and proceeded to the University of Ibadan, Nigeria where he obtained a BSc. in Mechanical Engineering, in 1987. He later completed his compulsory National Youth Service Corp scheme in 1988, in Maiduguri. He has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Benin, Nigeria in 1997. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ibadan.

He is a member of the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).

Tony is also a member of the Investment Committee Members of Coronation Investment Fund as well as a Board Member, Bonny Gas Transport Company and Board Member, Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) from 2016 till date.

 He has served as a member of the board of Amnesty Oil and Gas Industry Foundation from 2010-2011, River State/DADTCo Cassava Initiative Board and Shell Petroleum Development Company; SPDC from 2009 – 2013.

Over his distinguished career across Europe, Russia and Africa, Tony has led multi-disciplinary teams across diverse cultures. He has been renowned for his strong strategic and commercial mindset which is underpinned by a solid technical background and excellent leadership capabilities.

 Tony Attah has over 28 years’ experience in providing business leadership with focus on Health Safety & Environment (HSE) Goal Zero and bottom-line commercial delivery underpinned by a deep strategic and operations background with very broad-based knowledge of the oil and gas industry having worked in Nigeria, The Netherlands and in Sakhalin, Russia.

Tony is a proven dynamic business leader who focuses on people and bottom-line business results delivery. His over 28 years of industry experience is encapsulated in his proven track record of delivering top-quartile performance in managing business organizations and the ability to build and nurture long-term business relationships with internal and external stakeholders in furtherance of business objectives.
