Transcorp Power, an indigenous power Company in Nigeria, has advised the incoming administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to heighten the supply of gas to power generating companies in the country, if its new acquisition, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) must work.
The Federal Government, through the National Council on Privatization (NCP), recently approved the Transcorp Group Consortium’s acquisition of AEDC. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Trancorp Power, Tony Elumelu, while speaking on challenges, pointed out the importance of power to the development of the country. He also called on the incoming administration to build up gas supply to power plants in order to enable the improvement of power generation across the country.
Elumelu said that the importance of power in Nigeria is a well known fact and everyone has experienced the consequences of the current power deficit, as well as the implications it has on people, businesses, schools, hospitals and institutions.
In his own words, “Transcorp Group is a key player in the power sector. We recognize that power is the single most critical factor to lifting our people out of poverty and enabling job creation. Therefore, I am so proud today, that we have been able to bring together so many key stakeholders. We are fulfilling our promises to the Government and demonstrating Transcorp’s purpose of “mproving Lives and Transforming Africa.”
Transcorp Group says it remains at the top of driving Nigeria’s economic revitalization through its power investments in Ughelli, now Transafam Power Limited and is one of the power subsidiaries of Transcorp Group and the core investor in Afam Genco, which comprises of Afam Power and Afam Three Fast Power Limited. The Afam Genco Power Plant is located at Okoloma Village in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, with a total installed capacity of 966 MW.
