Tinubu Unveils 30 CNG-Powered Buses, Hails Energy Innovation as Key to Prosperity

By William Emmanuel Ukpoju

President Bola Tinubu on Monday inaugurated 30 locally-manufactured Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses with a combined passenger capacity of 3,000. The hybrid buses, donated by the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), are expected to revolutionize the nation’s transportation industry.

Speaking at the inauguration, President Tinubu emphasized the benefits of utilizing natural gas to power transportation, citing reduced costs, enhanced productivity, and savings on imported fuel.

He noted that commercial vehicles account for 80% of Nigeria’s petroleum demand, highlighting the potential impact of switching to CNG.

The President commended Innoson Motors, the manufacturer, for their commitment to the CNG initiative and expressed optimism about the future of transportation in Nigeria.

Dame Winifred Akpani, Chairperson of DAPPMAN, also expressed support for the administration’s efforts to enhance the transportation system, leading to lower costs and prosperity for Nigerians.

This move is seen as a significant step towards reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported fuel and promoting energy innovation, with President Tinubu assuring that “things will get better” and “prosperity will be achieved.”
