Tinubu Denies Influence of Cabal or Sponsors in Economic Reforms

By William Emmanuel Ukpoju

President Bola Tinubu has dismissed concerns about manipulation by special interest groups in the ongoing economic reforms, stating that his campaign was self-funded and free from external influence.

“I have no cabal. I have no sponsors. The money I spent on the elections was my personal fortune,” President Tinubu said during a meeting with Islamic leaders at the State House on Thursday.

In a statement issued by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President, Media & Publicity, Mr President was quoted saying,

“Mine is to now follow the leading and teaching of the Almighty God.”

The President further emphasized the importance of a clear conscience in fighting corruption and prioritizing the future of Nigerian children. “What should be uppermost in our minds is the future of our children. We have a lot to teach them on what it takes to be a good citizen and what it takes to be a responsible citizen,” he added.

President Tinubu also addressed the recent protests, warning that they could lead to violence and hinder progress. “We do not want to turn Nigeria into Sudan. We are talking about hunger, not burials. We have to be careful. We should be careful with premature politics; politics of hate, and anger,” he cautioned.

The President highlighted his administration’s efforts to support citizens, including reworking the social welfare scheme, increasing the minimum wage, and introducing student loans and consumer credit programs.

Sheikh Bala Lau, leader of the Islamic delegation, assured President Tinubu of their support through prayers and sensitization efforts. “Peace is paramount for us in the country. The first thing Abraham asked God for was peace and guidance,” Sheikh Lau said.
