Shell companies win 2019 Nigeria Oil & Gas Excellence Award

Shell Companies in Nigeria, SCiN, have won the coveted Excellence Award at the 2019 Nigeria Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition, held in Abuja.

SCiN is made up of the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC; Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, SNEPCO; and Shell Nigeria Gas, SNG.

Presenting the award to the Chairman, Shell Companies in Nigeria and Managing Director Of SPDC, Mr. Osagie Okunbor, the outgoing Group Managing Director of NNPC Dr. Maikanti Kachalla Baru, said the award was well deserved.

According to Baru, many efforts and innovations by Shell companies in Nigeria had continued to drive the industry towards sustained economic development and growth.

“I would have been surprised if another organisation had won this award because Shell has been leading in innovation

“It is a well-deserved award and I expect you (SCiN) to do more. Shell should mentor the growth of other Nigerian companies in the industry.”

Receiving the award, the Managing Director, Shell Petroleum Development Company and Country Chair, Shell Companies in Nigeria, Osagie Okunbor, said Shell companies would be further challenged by the recognition to be relentless in making significant contributions to the industry and the Nigerian economy.

Okunbor said apart from the energy produced by Shell companies and the revenue it generates for the government, SCiN remained at the forefront of indigenizing industry skills and capabilities while growing Nigerian companies to provide key services in-country.

“We are pleased that this Excellence Award, along with our emergence as the International Oil Company with the Most Impactful Local Content Initiatives in the upstream category at the 2019 edition of the NCDMB’s Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair held in Yenagoa in April, is a recognition of Shell’s deliberate strategy to grow sustainable Nigerian companies.

“We are glad that our work is recognized by the industry. Our journey to excellence as a leading energy company is hinged on the tremendous dedication and contributions of our staff, the majority of whom are Nigerians; and the strong support of our partners led by the NNPC.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Limited, NLNG, won the NOG 2019 Nigerian Content Contribution Award.

The award was presented by the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote, and was received by NLNG General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Mrs. Eyono Fatayi-Williams.

The outgoing GMD of NNPC, Maikanti Baru received the NOG 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award, while the NOG 2019 Indigenous Company of the Year award went to Coleman Wires and Cables.

It should be noted that Shell recently garnered two industry leadership awards, including the Best Local Content Company from the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board and another from the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria.
