Shelf gets jack up rig deal extension with Sirius Petroleum

Offshore drilling contractor Shelf Drilling has secured a contract extension for its Adriatic I jack-up unit in Nigeria.

In its fleet status report released on Wednesday, Shelf said that the Adriatic I would keep working for Sirius Petroleum for longer than initially agreed.

As previously reported, Sirius Petroleum has recently hired the rig to drill wells at its Ororo field offshore Nigeria.

The rig had initially been expected to begin working for Sirius during 4Q 2018, however, this was put off for May 2019, as the Adriatic I had not completed its work for the previous operator Niger Delta.

The rig owner on Wednesday said the contract would now be extended by 105 more days, keeping the rig busy with Sirius from May till January 2020. While the drilling company did not share the dayrate, Bassoe Offshore estimates it to be around $60.000.

To remind, Sirius Petroleum in April sought an extension from Nigerian authorities to the term of its Ororo field license off Nigeria amid delays with its drilling program on the field due to the delays with the rig.

In order to preserve its current license, the company was required to bring the Ororo field into production on or before May 1, 2019. Therefore, given the – at the time – approaching timeline, the company sought a further extension to the term of the license from the Department of Petroleum Resources in Nigeria. The extension has already been granted on two previous occasions.
