NNPC Confirms 60,000 BPD Capacity
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has confirmed that the Port Harcourt refinery is now fully operational, with its 60,000 barrels per day (bpd) capacity in full swing. NNPC Ltd.’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, made the announcement in a statement on Saturday, refuting media reports claiming the refinery had been shut down.Thank you for reading this post, don’t forget to subscribe!
Soneye emphasized that the refinery, which resumed operations in November 2024 after extensive rehabilitation, is actively preparing for loading operations, and urged the public to disregard false reports. “The refinery is fully operational as confirmed by former Group Managing Directors (GMDs) of NNPC,” he said.
The Port Harcourt refinery, with a capacity of 60,000 bpd, began processing crude oil and delivering petroleum products to the market starting November 26, following its mechanical completion in 2023. This marks a significant achievement in Nigeria’s domestic refining capabilities, particularly amid earlier doubts about the rehabilitation’s authenticity.
The refinery, located in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region, has been operational since 1965 and is the largest and oldest of the three government-owned refineries. Its rehabilitation represents a key milestone in improving Nigeria’s energy infrastructure and reducing reliance on imported petroleum products.
