The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has said that energy transition is a gateway to energy security. It also called for global cooperation for the purpose of energy investments in Africa.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Mallam Mele Kyari, made this call at the ongoing African Refiners and Distributors Association (ARDA) Week in Cape Town, South Africa.
Represented at the event by NNPC’s Group Executive Director (ED), Downstream, Engr. Adeyemi Adetunji, KYARI described Nigeria as a nation that is rich in natural gas resources, and that these resources will be required in the country’s energy transition plan.
He further said that Africa needs to focus its energy transition plan on resources that are available and affordable, as well as improve operational efficiency and give players a competitive advantage.
According to him, NNPCL is committed to Nigeria’s energy sector strategy, which involves the maximum development of all resources available.
The NNPC Boss also added that the Nigerian gas sector creates investment opportunities for the nation to be able to invest in new energies, such as solar energy and electric vehicles.
