Nigeria Pillar of Sports Mourns House Committee Chair on Sports

Late Ekene Adams

By Saidu Abubakar

The Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike JP has lamented the sudden death of the Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Honourable Ekene Abubakar Adams. The lawmaker, who represented Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), died on Tuesday morning at the age of 39.

Ejidike describes his death as a colossal loss, not only to his immediate family, and the people of his constituency, but also, to sports development in Nigeria, saying he died at a time when his vision, energy, and passion is needed the most, to reposition Sports in Nigeria for greater development.

The Pillar of Sports gave the lamentation on Tuesday after an interaction with some group of sports journalists in Ilorin, shortly after the sad news of the sudden death was broken.

The former President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) said the death becomes more painful, considering the discussion he had in recent times with the Kaduna-born Federal lawmaker, concerning possible areas of partnership between the committee which the lawmaker headed, and the Office of the Nigeria Pillar of Sports (ONPS).

The Nnewi-born Sports philanthropist describes the passion the late lawmaker had for grassroots sports development, as massive, saying decision by his fellow lawmakers to make him chairman of the House Committee on Sports was a well-informed one, considering his previous involvements in sports development, especially at the grassroots level.

Honourable Adams, it would be recalled, was the General Manager of Kada City Football Club, and Remo Stars Football Cub of Ìjẹ̀bú Ode, at different times, before winning the house of representatives seat in the 2023 general election.

While praying for the family he left behind, his loved ones, his colleagues at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, and his constituents, the Anambra-born business mogul, prayed for the soul of the deceased lawmaker to be reposed in the bossom of the Almighty God.
