Nigerdock Achieves 40% Renewable Energy Utilization

By Moses Patience Chat

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nigerian Maritime Company, Nigerdock, Mr Maher Jarmakani, has said that his company has successfully substituted 40% of the energy they consume with the installation of solar panels at their office, which is located at Snake Island in Lagos State.

The project, he said, was initiated with the aim of developing 20 megawatts (MW) of power that will be reliable, sustainable and cost-effective within their zone of operation.

According to Maher, the completion of the project is one attempt from them to improve their energy use, while reducing the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere, as Nigerdock has been able to scale down their carbon footprint by an estimated 2,000 metric tonnes.

He added that the new development will help to improve their ease of doing business and also aid Nigeria in its strive for a deeper blue economy, in line with the country’s Climate Change Act (2021) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
