By William Emmanuel Ukpoju

Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), led the inauguration ceremony of the 4th Governing Council of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) on Thursday in Abuja.

The event, held in accordance with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, marks a pivotal moment in driving forward initiatives for the advancement of Nigerian Content within the oil and gas sector.

Comprising representatives from selected institutions connected with the industry, the newly constituted council, chaired by Senator Lokpobiri, includes notable figures such as Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, Executive Secretary of NCDMB, and Mrs. Oritsemyiwa Eyesan, Executive Vice President of Gas, Power, and New Energy at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd.

During his remarks, Senator Lokpobiri underscored the significance of institutional representation within the council, emphasizing the importance of leveraging expertise from diverse organizations to propel positive change within the sector.

He commended the NCDMB for its achievements over the past 13 years and called for continued collaboration among council members to further enhance Nigerian Content development.

A core mandate of the NCDMB, as highlighted by Senator Lokpobiri, is the development of indigenous human and infrastructural capacities within the oil and gas industry. This aligns with efforts to empower Nigerians to assume critical roles in driving the sector’s growth and development.

Responding on behalf of the council, Mr. Olorundare Sunday Thomas, Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), expressed gratitude for the nomination and affirmed the council’s commitment to upholding the confidence placed in them.

He lauded the accomplishments of the NCDMB and praised Nigeria’s leading role in setting the standard for Nigerian Content implementation, which has garnered international recognition.

In his closing remarks, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe pledged to work closely with all council members to elevate the NCDMB to greater heights, promising continued dedication to advancing Nigerian Content within the oil and gas industry.

The inauguration of the 4th Governing Council of the NCDMB signifies a renewed commitment to driving forward initiatives for Nigerian Content development and strengthening Nigeria’s position as a key player in the global oil and gas arena.
