Mrs. Aisha Farida Katagum: Group Executive Director, Corporate Services (GED, CS), NNPC Ltd

Aisha Farida Katagum, a graduate of Bayero University Kano, joined the services of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. in 1987 as Account Billing Officer 1 in Finance and Accounts Department of the former PMMTD, NNPC, responsible for Registering and Billing of all petroleum products sales and in charge of major marketers and bunker sales. She was promoted, in 1989, to Account Officer 11 and posted to Cash Office. From 1992 – 1996, she rose through the ranks and became the Officer –in-charge of foreign payments and Project Account. Thereafter, she moved to Export, Bunkering and Billing unit of FAD-PPMC, where she was overseeing the Billings and payments of all domestic jetty sales as well as coastal and Apapa liftings, LPG and Product Export sales.

Between 1996 and 2004, she supervised export sales of petroleum products such as fuel oil, naphtha and VGO from Warri Refining and Petroleum Company (WRPC) and Port-Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), and also account for accrued revenue thereof. She was later deployed to Supply and Distribution Department as the Supervisor, Supply, where she organized and coordinated the activities of Supply Unit.

In recognition of her hard work, she was promoted to the position of Deputy Manager, Supply in 2007 and was charged with the responsibility of supply of petroleum products by PPMC in order to bridge the national supply gap. She was also the contact staff on Offshore Processing Agreement (OPA) from 2010 –2012.

Mrs Katagum, an indigene of Kano state, was later deployed to Sales Department as the Deputy Manager Export Sales/Head OPA between 2012 and 2013 where she ensured prompt evacuation of LPFO, HPFO, and Naphtha from the refineries. She also coordinated all the activities of offshore Processing Agreement (OPA) and Crude Oil – Products Exchange Agreement (SWAP) to ensure adequate supply of products nationwide.

She was subsequently promoted to the position of a Manager in 2013 and deployed to Planning and Budget Monitoring De

partment where she managed and superintended over the preparation of PPMC strategic plan and annual budget proposals as well as monitoring the plan and performance of the approved budget. Her leadership qualities and experience was brought to bear in the prompt compilation of data on all PPMC operations for management and CP&S information as well as coordinated the collation and reconciliation of the PPMC data which was submitted to NEITI for the annual audit of Oil and Gas Industries.

Mrs. Katagum had also worked in Sales Department as Manager Sales responsible for the evacuation of petroleum products from the refineries, as well as receipts and distribution of imported products. A position she held until her appointment as the acting Executive Director, Storage in November 2015 and confirmed as the substantive ED Storage in 2016. Her dint of hard work paid off as she was later elevated to the position of the Group General Manager Shipping in June, 2017 in acting capacity and thereafter confirmed as substantive GGM, Shipping same year.

Born in Kano in 1962, Mrs. Aisha Farida Katagum obtained her West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1978 from Federal Government Girls College, Kazaure. She later received her IJMB certificate from School of Basic Studies, Kano in 1981 before she later obtained her BSc (Hons) in Accounting from Bayero University, Kano in 1984.

After her graduation, she was posted to Akintola Williams Audit Firm for the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), where she assisted in auditing the accounts of many companies. On successful completion of her National Service, she was retained by the firm as an Audit Trainee.

She is a patriotic, committed and value-driven Nigerian with over three decades of selfless service to the country through different sensitive and critical positions held at the state-owned Oil Company.

Before her current appointment as the first female Group Executive Director, Corporate Services (GED, CS) by President Muhammadu Buhari, she was the Group General Manager, Supply Chain Division, where she recorded great milestones.

With firm belief in deepening processes, Aisha diligently, with her team, managed the tendering processes that led to the successful award of contract for the rehabilitation of the nation’s three refineries and midwifed the tendering process for the Downstream Critical Infrastructures (Pipelines, Depots & Terminals) through the Finance, Build & Transfer scheme (FBOT).  

Given her background as a cost control expert, she drove the task of 30% downward re-negotiation of contracts in line with Top Management directive for cost optimization during the peak of COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, she ensured full compliance & usage of the Procure to Pay (P2P) solution with Top Management steer.

During the same period, she improved contracting and procurement processes in the system through robust constant involvement & engagement of key stakeholders, both internal & external (In-House Unions, NEITI, ICRC, CLO, Federal Ministry of Finance (FMoF), Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP) and others in line with the Transparency, Accountability and Performance Excellence (TAPE) agenda of the Group Managing Director, Mallam Mele Kyari.

As a firm believer in the ideals of the Corporation, the cost-conscious GED has spent greater part of her career in the downstream sector of the industry, contributing toward achieving energy sufficiency for the nation by bridging the national petroleum products in-country supply gap.

Mrs Katagum is a member of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), and she is happily married with children.
