Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in an interview on Sunday said that the fuel crisis that is currently faced by Nigeria can be fixed with effective local refining.
He also lamented that the insufficient supply of crude oil to modular refineries in the country has been a stumbling block to achieving adequate local refining and supply of petroleum products.
According to him, the insufficient supply of crude to refineries is a problem that needs to be resolved with immediate effect so that in-country refining can commence, thereby reducing the sufferings of the Nigerian people as a result of fuel scarcity.
Commenting on the issue of fuel subsidy, Obi said his stand is for its removal. He made it clear that he would remove fuel subsidy with immediate effect if he becomes president of Nigeria, explaining further that he views it as an aspect of organized crime.
The Labour Party flagbearer however maintained that for fuel subsidy removal to be achievable in Nigeria, local refineries will have to start functioning.
