Kaduna Refinery To Carry Host Communities Along in Rehabilitation Project

By Adaobi Rhema Oguejiofor

The Management of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) has assured that its host communities will have the highest slots when it comes to the provision of jobs in the ongoing rehabilitation project that is being undertaken by Daewoo Engineering and Construction.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited had earlier awarded a $741 million contract, which is equivalent to N579 billion, to South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering & Construction in order to rehabilitate the Kaduna Refinery.

The firm, under the quick-fix repair contract, will be responsible for restoring production at the 110,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) facility to at least 60 percent of its capacity by the end of 2024

The Managing Director (MD) of KRPC, Dr. Mustapha Sugungun, who was represented by the Manager of Business Services, Ahmed Sa’ad, while speaking at a KRPC’s joint community and stakeholders’ forum meeting in Kaduna, said that the company was committed to discharging its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the host communities in order to strengthen relationships.

In his own words, “it is in light of this that we delivered a brand new Siemens 500 KVA transformer to Oil Village, Mahuta Community that will be commissioned in a couple of days. We have also identified locations and started the process of constructing five solar-powered bore holes, construction of a healthcare dispensary center, construction of two skill acquisition centers, one in Kaduna and the other in Zaria, as well as the renovation of 16 primary schools.”
