The Managing Director (MD) of the Jos Electricity Distribution (JED), Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, has once again called on communities in Plateau State to assist the Disco in protecting its installations from being vandalized by criminals.
Engr. Mohammed made this call during a courtesy visit to his office by representatives of Kwang and Mangu Hali communities in Plateau State.
The MD, who was heavily disturbed by the rate of vandalization of electricity facilities, especially the transformers, called on communities to help in safeguarding them.
He described the alarming situation as a very serious problem that poses a lot of security challenges, as well as social and economic convulsion.
Engr. Mohammed charged the various communities within the company’s franchise areas to organize vigilante groups, assuring that the Disco will greatly support them.
In his own words, “help us to secure our facilities against vandalism. You can see that about 18 communities are currently having various cases of vandalism.
“This is a very serious problem. It is deepening into our resources. It is a thorn in our flesh. Every day, there are cases of vandalism on our network. We will support the vigilantes to help us in curbing the menace.”
The spokesman of the Kwang community, Mr Goeuam Anthony, as well as the Spokesman of the Mangu Hali community, Hon. Yusuf Dashang, thanked the MD for a purposeful leadership, while also acknowledging that the supply of power in Plateau State had considerably improved since he came on board.
The community representatives urged him not to be deterred in his quest to navigate the company to a greater height and wished him success.
