FG will begin conversion of vehicles in Nigeria for gas fueling from Oct onwards – Sylva

The Federal Government announces plans to begin the conversion of cars for gas fueling by October 2020 following the recent hike in the price of petrol fuel.

The recent hike in the price of petrol fuel has made natural gas about 40% cheaper and this new reality seems to be one of the reasons why the Federal Government is now rooting for the adoption of gas fueling.

Mr. Timipre Sylva, the minister for petroleum resources has even affirmed in his recent press statement that FG is set to begin converting cars for gas fueling starting next month.

According to press reports, Mr. Timipre Sylva had been promising since he assumed office, that he will ensure the provision of an alternative fuel option that will be affordable for almost everyone. Earlier this year, he reportedly pledged to soon make available CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) that should sell for around ₦97, serving as a cheaper alternative to petrol fuel.

Going by the recent press statements of the minister, the Federal Government will be set to begin converting vehicles to use CNG as fuel starting from October 2020. This development he promised will not cost Nigerians any dime as the conversion process will be done “free of charge”.

The minister claimed that converted vehicles will be able to use both gas and petrol fuel and the “Free” cost of conversion will be FG’s effort to reduce the burden of expenses on the masses. Similarly, reports also claim that the minister said generating plants can also be converted to use the same natural gas as fuel.
