FG Issues License to Six Companies for Petrol Importation

By Moses Patience Chat

The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), has issued licenses to six companies for the importation of petroleum products.

NMDPRA had earlier said that three oil marketers will start importing petroleum products in July. However, while briefing journalists on Monday after a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the CEO of the Authority, Engr.Farouk Ahmed, revealed that the number has increased to six.

His words: “There are six companies who said they want to import fuel in July. Of course, all the others may import in December in November, or anytime but those who expressed interest to bring in fuel in July there were six of them as of this morning.

“The beauty of it is that there are interests which means that they have been able to have access to foreign exchange in order to import.”

Ahmed encouraged all oil companies that are interested in the importation of fuel to reach out to NMDPRA as they are always open to attend to them and that “apart from the six firms, a number of companies have applied for permits.”

He  further assured that the Authority would continue to update stakeholders on any progress or achievements made. He also noted that NNPC Limited has 30 days fuel sufficiency and does not envisage any gap in supply or in distribution
