Enugu Rangers Accept NFF’s Decision To End NPFL Using PPG

-By Saidu Abubakar

Enugu Rangers have accepted the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation NFF and the League to end the 2020 NPFL season with the Points Per Game (PPG).

Rangers CEO Davidson Owumi disclosed this over the weekend that even though the club had its reservations on how the league was ended, it will respect it because the majority of the teams are in favor of ending the league with that format.

“You know that from the on-set, Enugu Rangers took a stand on the PPG but we are on the minority and you know on issues like this, majority carries the vote,” Owumi told DiegwuSports

Owumi who was speaking to DiegwuSports Senior Editor Diegwu Nwankwor over the weekend on Total Naija on Wazobia 93.7 FM Onitsha, said the club was obliged to respect the decision since the NFF and LMC already had their minds made up in using the PPG.

“Once the NFF and the LMC have decided on what they will stick to, no matter our reservations, we will have to hold through with their decision. Rangers alone can not change the decision of the NFF and LMC.”

Owumi who himself is a former NPFL chief said he hoped that this outcome of this season will be used as a precedence in years to come.

It should be recalled that earlier this month the NFF decided to end the 2020 NPFL season on Matchday 25 and the Points Per Game (PPG) table will be used to rank the teams in order to ensure sporting merit and sporting fairness.

Plateau United and Enyimba FC will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League while Rivers United and Kano Pillars will represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederations Cup.

There will be no promotion to, or relegation from, NPFL for the 2019/2020 season.

The NNL (2nd division) 2020 season which is at Matchday 3 – 5 and has been on break since December 17, 2019, cancelled, null and void with no promotion to, or relegation from the NPFL.
