Energy Professionals Urge Tinubu to Establish Energy Ministry

The Society of Technology and Energy Professionals has urged the President-Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to create a Ministry of Energy and appoint an expert in the field to lead it.

The advice was issued on Wednesday by the President of STEP, Chimeremeze Enwere, in a statement containing a congratulatory message to Tinubu, after the first inaugural meeting of the Council for Registration of Technology and Energy Professionals in Port Harcourt.

Enwere said that the creation of an energy ministry would help Nigeria to solve its energy problems and also improve energy investments, funding, storage, and infrastructure. He added that as Tinubu is taking up his new responsibilities, he should also bear in mind that the nation is facing serious energy challenges, which is why the Association sincerely appeals that he establish an energy ministry with a competent minister during his administration.

According to him, the establishment will enable Nigeria to solve its energy problems through the exploration of other sources of energy, as well as through the implementation of energy policies, climate actions, and strengthening the nation’s energy commission and other energy agencies.

The STEP President also said that local content acceleration and the improvement of energy investments, funding, storage, and infrastructure will bring about a lasting solution to the country’s energy and electricity problems, while continuing to optimize the petroleum sector. He assured the President-Elect that the Association would be willing to work with his administration, if he ever needs them.

“We look forward to working with you not only to develop closer relations between technology and energy professionals and your administration, but also to bring concerted efforts in the advancement of Nigerian technology and energy for the benefit of our dear nation and our economy, especially now that STEP has started the registration of technology and energy professionals.”
