Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed strong support for a proposed collaboration between Nigeria and the Asia Economic Development Committee (AEDC) of South Korea, focusing on the manufacture of solar equipment and electric vehicles, as well as the deployment of advanced information technology to bolster security across the country.

The Vice President made the remarks on Tuesday while hosting a delegation from the AEDC led by its Chairman, Mr Yoon Suk-hun, during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Shettima highlighted Nigeria’s readiness to engage in strategic partnerships that align with President Bola Tinubu’s industrialisation drive, with the overarching aim of enhancing the well-being of Nigerians.

He noted that Nigeria welcomes initiatives geared towards technology transfer and the establishment of local industries, especially those related to clean energy and sustainable transportation.

Reaffirming the administration’s dedication to fostering a business-friendly environment, the Vice President assured the visiting delegation of the government’s full cooperation and commitment to creating conditions that enable private sector growth.

“This government wants to be the facilitator for businesses to thrive in Nigeria. We will create a safe passage and a conducive environment for private businesses like yours to thrive,” he said.

Shettima also lauded South Korea’s enduring contributions to Africa’s development, referencing their shared historical experiences and the Asian nation’s notable strides in human capital development and innovation, particularly in the automobile and alternative energy industries.

In his remarks, Mr Yoon Suk-hun said the visit aimed to identify opportunities for collaboration in areas such as solar energy, electric mobility, and IT infrastructure that could strengthen Nigeria’s security sector.

He emphasised that the AEDC’s proposed investment in Nigeria is driven not by profit motives, but by a commitment to technology transfer and capacity building in crucial sectors.
