The 42nd Annual International Conference and Exhibition of the National Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) came to a close last night, with Shell companies in Nigeria emerging as top winners. The event showcased the company’s commitment to Nigeria’s energy sector, with a strong focus on sustainability and community development.

Shell’s outstanding participation earned it the coveted Best Overall Exhibitor and Best Exhibiting Energy Company (International) awards. The company’s geophysicist, Somime Oguntola, also received the Award of Excellence for Oral Paper (second place), while Johnbosco Uche, a Shell staff member, was inaugurated as the new President of NAPE.

The conference highlighted Shell’s dedication to giving back to the community. The company’s medical stand provided complimentary medical services to over 500 attendees and members of the public, including laboratory tests, deworming, medical consultations, and eye care services. Nearly 300 eyeglasses were distributed during the four-day event.

In a keynote address at the closing dinner, Ronald Adams, Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), reaffirmed the company’s pledge to address Nigeria’s energy challenges. “We’re dedicated to powering progress and ensuring energy security in a sustainable manner,” he emphasized.

Adams cited SNEPCo’s operations as a shining example of Shell’s contribution to Nigeria’s energy landscape. “Our sustained production has driven development, empowered local contractors, and implemented social investments that have positively impacted lives across the country,” he said.

With a long history of supporting NAPE since its inception in 1975, Shell continues to demonstrate its commitment to Nigeria’s energy future. The company’s expertise and resources are being leveraged to improve educational and mentoring programs, fostering growth and development in the sector. The company’s success at NAPE 2024 underscores its position as a leader in the industry, driving progress and sustainability in Nigeria’s energy landscape.
