History is again being made today in the oil and gas industry with the flag-off of exploration following oil discovery at Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The flàg-off by President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR is with the collaboration of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

Presidential Flag-off Cereminy of the Spud-In of Ebenyi-A Exploration Well, marks the exploration of crude oil in Nasarawa State as made known by the NNPCL Monday.

The Special Assistant to the President on Digital & New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi, through his Twitter handle stated that with the drilling of a well to be known as Ebenyi-A, crude oil exploration will formally commence in Nasarawa state this week.

According to him, this would have been the first oil well in the North-Central zone of Nigeria, but Kogi recently became an oil-producing state through a handful of newly-assigned wells.

Earlier this year, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPCL, Mele Kyari, announced that the official Spud-in of the first oil well in Nasarawa would commence in March 2023.

The NNPCL had in January announced the discovery of oil in Nasarawa State, adding that it was in continuation of its oil exploration activities in the country’s inland basin.
