The Federal Government on Thursday said it is putting in place certain measures to ensure that about 9000 megawatts (MW) of electricity is generated from renewable energy sources in the country.
Valuechain learnt that the vision of the Federal Government is aimed at raising the current capacity of electricity generation from all sources to 30,000 megawatts by 2030, with 30% of the megawatts coming from renewables, which is equivalent to 9000 megawatts.
This was made known during a retreat organized for the Management Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in Abuja, where it was further disclosed that renewable energy sources such as solar and wind remain a vital solution to bridging the energy deficit in various parts of Nigeria.
Ahmad Salihijo, who is the Managing Director of REA, explained that the purpose for organizing the retreat was to strengthen the energy supply institution and to establish sustainable energy systems nationwide, especially in rural and underserved communities.
