The Managing Director of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Disco), Dr. Tinuade Sanda, has revealed that Eko, Ikeja and Abuja Discos will be carrying out bilateral power purchase agreements with some Generation Companies (Gencos) of their choice before the end of 2023.

Dr. Sanda made this known during an interview to celebrate her one year in office as the Managing Director (MD) of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC).

She stated that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had singled out the three Discos as excellent Discos to start the initiative.

According to her, when the bilateral power deal between the three Discos and Gencos commences, Nigerians would be able to see improvement in power supply, as the Discos will now be directly dealing with Gencos.

In her own words, “towards the end of the year, we should see some improvement. Some part of last year was really bad. This year is looking better and we hope that it continues to improve.

“So, in my opinion, I feel that the partial activation implementation was a good one, the right step in the right direction.”

She, however, noted that lessons had been learnt from the implementation of the failed partial activation, stating that with the introduction of the partial activation in 2022, there has been some discipline in the sector.
