The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has obtained commitments from stakeholders to scale up renewable and distributed energy resources in Nigeria. This follows the successful conclusion of the Summit on Accelerating Scale-Up of Renewable and Distributed Energy Resources in Nigeria, held on Tuesday.

The summit brought together participants from the public and private sectors, distribution companies, development finance institutions, renewable energy firms, and consultancy firms.

Key takeaways from the summit included the need for renewable energy certificates, promotion of carbon credits, and prioritization of mini-grid and distributed energy regulations.

According to NERC Deputy General Manager, Abba Terab, the summit marked the beginning of a collaborative effort to deliver renewable energy and distributed energy in the power system.

NERC will review feedback and requests, particularly on mini-grid regulations, and work on relevant regulations in line with business rules.

NERC Commissioner, Planning, Research and Strategy, Dr. Yusuf Ali, expressed gratitude to participants and donor agencies for their contributions to the summit.

He emphasized the importance of networking and the showcasing of potential opportunities, highlighting the success of the event.

The summit’s outcome is expected to drive growth in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector, with stakeholders working together to achieve this goal.
