NDPHC Begins Training of 36 Engineers to Improve Nigeria’s Power Sector Workforce

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has embarked on the training of 36 graduates on a 12-month internship programme intended to refine their skills and, in the long run, improve the capacity of the workforce in the Nigerian power sector.

The Executive Director of Corporate Services, NDPHC, Nkechi Mba, while speaking during the induction of the Batch A successful applicants for the programme, stated that the programme was established to enable engineering graduates have practical experience of how the power sector operates.

According to her, NDPHC has the best resources in terms of power sector knowledge and it needs to pass this knowledge on to enable young engineering graduates have access to that knowledge, as this will give them an advantage in trying to find jobs and placement in the sector, as well as making their career projection.

Mba said that the programme is meant to help the new generation of engineers to be capable of adding value and growth to their careers, while also learning from the best brains in the sector.

She maintained that the interns were chosen from the six geo-political zones in the country, after undergoing a series of tests and the best applicants were selected.

The Executive Director, Generation, Kazeem Abdullahi, said that the company has qualified engineers and the programme would help add to the pool of engineers by going through the basics, picking young engineering graduates and building them up on the right track to be very competent and also able to contribute in improving the power sector of Nigeria.
