Host communities urge NNPC to fix Warri Refinery

Host communities of crude oil products in Itsekiri land of Delta State on Wednesday called on the Nigeria Petroleum Producing Company to fix the ailing Warri Refinery without further delay.

They urge the national behemoth to make the refinery operational at at full capacity in order to make it serve the purpose for which it was established.

Also, the Itsekiri host communities urged Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company to carry out a proper clean up of the four host communities’ rivers.

They alleged that the activities of WRPC Warri and Nigeria Gas Company had polluted the rivers since December 2019.

These demands were contained in a petition dispatched to the NNPC by the umbrella Itsekiri organisation, the Itsekiri Liberation Group, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri on Wednesday.

The petition, signed by its secretary, Omagbemi Ajofortan; and two other executive members —  Okorodudun Gbesimi and Neye Micheal Golly, respectively — warned NNPC to put a halt to an alleged “secret privatization of Warri refinery and the PPMC Jetty without notifying the host communities” and called for the setting up of a proper joint team that must involve both the host communities and the management team.
