Gas to Power: FG Boosts Supply with N220bn -Minister

Sequel to a meeting held between the Hon. Minister of Power, Engr Sale Mamman and the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari, alongside the Managing Director of Niger Delta Power Holding Company, NDPHC, Mr. Chiedo Ugbo earlier today, the total sum of ₦220 billion has been released, representing outstanding debts and three months upfront payments to companies supplying gas to the Power Sector.

“These payments will ensure tremendous power supply. I would like to assure Nigerians that I shall continue to explore all channels available to improve electricity supply across the country during the Covid-19 pandemic and most importantly beyond this period.”

The minister revealed in his Twitter handle that “I also want to inform Nigerians that recent efforts to improve the power sector have paid off and that we have recorded significant historic rise in daily generation output of Electricity. A formal statement to that effect shall be made available by my office.” he added.

It would be recalled that the minister, earlier yesterday, had also said, through his Twitter handle thus: “I have met with the GMD of the NNPC, Mallan Mele Kyari and the MD of Transmission Company of Nigeria, Mallam Usman Gur Muhammad as well as the MD of NDPHC, Mr. Chiedu Ugbo to discuss constant gas supply for Electricity Generation across Nigeria during the Covid-19 lockdown period and beyond.”
