In a bid to address obstacles facing agricultural productivity and unlock new opportunities in the livestock-farming value chain, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the Presidential Committee on Implementation of Livestock Reforms.
The committee, co-chaired by former INEC Chairman Professor Attahiru Jega, comprises experienced experts from the public and private sectors, state governors and other stakeholders.
President Tinubu emphasized the need for collective efforts to implement the reforms, urging members to set aside partisan politics and work together for the nation’s benefit.
He announced plans to create a Ministry of Livestock Development to explore the sector’s potential and address conflicts.
The President also highlighted the importance of modernizing livestock farming, leveraging technology, and removing legal obstacles to implementation.
He emphasized the significance of the dairy industry and cold-chain logistics in enhancing nutrition, food security, and economic growth.
The committee’s inauguration follows the submission of a report on livestock reforms in September 2023.
President Tinubu thanked APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje for his initiative and leadership in assembling the committee.
The implementation of livestock reforms is expected to have a positive impact on farmers, herders, processors, distributors, and the nation as a whole.
