Engr. Mustapha Yinusa Yakubu: Chief Operating Officer, Refineries & Petrochemicals, NNPC

Engr. Mustapha Yinusa Yakubu was born on July 14, 1962 in Ilorin, Kwara State and graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering) degree in 1985.

He also holds a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering (1988) from University of Lagos.

Upon his graduation in 1985, Engr. Yakubu started work as a Graduate Assistant with the Bayero University, Kano in 1986, and subsequently moved to Ove-Arup & Partners, a firm of consulting engineers based in Lagos as Project Engineer between 1989 to 1991.

He joined the services of NNPC in 1992 as a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer.

He served variously as Lead Engineer, Field Engineering Coordinator and Project Manager on many oil and gas projects ranging from Fixed Platforms to Floating Structures where he coordinated engineering works from conceptual, front end engineering, detailed engineering design through to fabrication and construction. 

Until his appointment as COO Refineries and Petrochemicals, Engr. Mustapha Yinusa Yakubu was the Managing Director of the National Engineering and Technical Company (NETCO). A company he previously served as an Executive Director, Operations.

 Some of the notable projects he actively participated include: Escravos Gas Project (EGP); NLNG Expansion Projects; Erha FPSO Design Development Project; East Area Projects; Bonga SW / Aparo Field Development Project; and the MPN EPCm2 Contract Major Integrity Project.

Engr. Yakubu is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) with an array of recognition awards in his kitty, including NETCO MD’s Recognition and Award for Excellence and NETCO Top Management Commendation for Cost-Saving on NETCO in-house Projects.
