The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) has said that electrical accidents killed 58 persons and inflicted serious injuries on 46 others across the 11 electricity distribution companies DisCos and in branches of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) nationwide.
In a report detailing its monthly safety ranking of DisCos and TCN branches in 2022, NEMSA further explained that the affected persons included electrical and non-electrical staff.
According to the records, the highest number of deaths happened in April 2022, consisting of 15 mortalities; while the highest number of serious injuries consisted of 11 persons in May of the same year.
NEMSA stated that most of these electrical accidents result from failures of system protection equipment, use of substandard materials, and poor response to monitored networks, among other reasons.
