CAF Awards Nigeria 3-0 Win Over Libya, After Airport Drama

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), yesterday, awarded Nigeria three goals win against Libya following the decision of its Disciplinary Board coded DC23175.

In a letter addressed to the General Secretary of the Libya Football Federation dated 26th October, 2024, it said: “Please find the terms of the decision rendered by the CAF Disciplinary Board at its meeting on 23rd of October, 2024.

(1) The Libya Football Federation is found to have breached Article 31 of the African Cup of Nations Regulations as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

(2) The match No. 87 Libya v. Nigeria of the CAF African Cup of Nations Qualifiers 2025 (scheduled to be played on 15 October 2024 in Benghazi) is declared lost by forfeit by Libya (by a score of 3-0).

The letter also conveyed the Board’s fine of USD 50,000 slammed on the Libya Football Federation “which is to be paid within 60 days of the notification of the decision”.

Furthemore, the Board ruled that “all other and further motions or prayers for relief are dismissed”.

All are aftermath of the botched Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Libya and Nigeria slated for Tuesday, 15 October 2024, during which the Nigerian Super Eagles were maltreated with their plane diverted to an abandoned airport about 300 kilometers away from the designated venue of the match – Benghazi. The team was abandoned for hours unattended to.
