BGT Enhances Green Shipping with New AKTORAS LNG Carrier

Bonny Gas Transport Limited (BGT), a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), has chartered the newly constructed vessel AKTORAS, aiming to diversify its shipping portfolio and significantly reduce its carbon footprint.

Owned by Capital Gas Limited, the AKTORAS is a state-of-the-art LNG carrier featuring MEGA propulsion systems. The vessel boasts a capacity of 174,000 m3, a length of 299.6 meters, a breadth (moulded) of 46.40 meters, and a deadweight of 81,194 tons.

This innovative prototype is a significant addition to BGT’s fleet, chartered under a Bareboat Charter arrangement. The ship was officially named during a ceremonial event at the Hyundai Heavy Industries Shipyard in South Korea.

Mrs. Olu Arowolo Verheijen, Special Adviser to the Nigerian President on Energy, served as the Sponsor Lady and Godmother, christening the vessel.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Ambassador Ferdinard Nwonye, Nigerian Ambassador to South Korea; Dr. Philip Mshelbila, BGT’s Executive Vice President and Managing Director and CEO of NLNG; Mr. Olakunle Osobu, Deputy Managing Director of NLNG; and Mr. Abdul-Kadir K. Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML).

Other attendees include Mr. Andy Odeh, General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG; Mr. Ufuoma Otomewo, General Manager of Commercial at NLNG; and Jerry Kalogiratos, CEO of Capital Gas Ship Management Corp.

The AKTORAS will be managed by NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML), further enhancing NLNG’s commitment to sustainable and efficient marine operations.
