The Secretary General of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Dr. Mohammad Barkindo, on Friday, met with the newly sworn-in President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, HE Ebrahim Raisi.

During the meeting in Tehran, barely 24 hours after Raisi’s inauguration, Barkindo held bilateral talks with Raisi.

Raisi thanked Barkindo for attending the inauguration ceremony on Thursday.

He also reiterated IR Iran’s continuous support to OPEC, and the decisions adopted by the Declaration of Cooperation (DoC).

“We are an active member (of OPEC), and we will continue to contribute well to OPEC,” Raisi promised.

Raisi congratulated Barkindo on OPEC’s 60th Anniversary.

In this context, the Secretary General informed the President that OPEC will celebrate its Diamond Anniversary in the Al Shaab Hall in Baghdad, Iraq, on September 30, 2021.

Barkindo congratulated Raisi on his success in the presidential election held on June 18.

“I wish you every success in your presidential leadership,” he said, while wishing the President good health and long life.

Barkindo highlighted the instrumental role played by IR Iran in affairs of the Organisation since its founding in September 1960 in Baghdad, Iraq.

The OPEC Secretary General underscored the wisdom and diplomacy of the Iranian leadership that helped build consensus between OPEC and non-OPEC oil producing countries to reach the DoC in 2016, and subsequently the CoC in 2019.

Valuechain reports that IR Iran is a founding member of OPEC.
