By Moses Patience Chat

The Africa Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO) has said that, it might make the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), located in Effurun Delta State, the regional center for its proposed training, innovation and research program.

Dr. Taher Najah, who is APPO’s Director of Research, said that the team came to Nigeria with the aim of assessing and inspecting PTI in order to know its capabilities and capacity to host such a regional petroleum research and innovation program in Africa.

Najah led other APPO officials to inspect the facilities at PTI, saying that they were also interested in knowing what level of training that PTI could provide and how much capacity of the institution could be dedicated to the proposed regional research program.

Dr. Henry Adimula, Principal and Chief Executive Officer of PTI, assured that the Institute has some of the best facilities in Africa that could be used to host APPO’s regional training, innovation and research.  He added that PTI has a rich history of training experience in the petroleum industry and has also been able to train some members who are now major players in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria and beyond.

Adimula further said that the Organization has all it takes to be considered a regional center in Africa, and that its past performance and contributions in the oil and gas sector are already glaring.

According to him, the visit by the APPO team was an opportunity for PTI to display its experience and capabilities, even as Nigeria has been known with a rich history of training capacity in the oil and gas sector.
