ACCI to Leverage FG’s Methanol Fuel Fund for National Development

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has disclosed that it is set to buy into the Federal Government’s intervention fund for Methanol Fuel in order to bring about national development.

The Chamber made this decision at a workshop organized by the Department of Environmental Sciences and Technology, under the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (FMSTI).

The President of ACCI, Dr. Al-Mujtaba Abubakar, who received a delegation from the Ministry, commended it for the initiative. He also praises the government’s effort in boosting methanol production as an alternative source of energy in Nigeria.

According to him, as a result to the benefits that lie in methanol, the huge deposits of natural gas will be useful to the nation because it will lead to job creation, technology development, and domestication, electricity generation, clean household energy services, as well as chemical industry value chain, and the reduction of lungs diseases among women and children. 

It will also ensure efficient transportation services and bring a stop, gas flaring, among other benefits.

The Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Adeleke Mamora, who led a delegation to ACCI for the workshop, revealed that the Federal Government was taking notable steps in order to provide intervention funds that will advance the development of the methanol fuel technology.

Mamora stated that the initiative is in line with President Buhari’s agenda and his recent presidential order, which demanded for the creation of 100 million jobs within a decade. He added that the utilization of methanol’s extensive value chain for industrialization plays a crucial role in achieving this ambitious goal.

The workshop was organized to engage with the business community on the conduct of feasibility studies for the nationwide adoption of Methanol Fuel Technology and Diffusion. It was themed, “Enhancing Business Opportunity for Methanol Driven Economy.”
