Abdulrazaq Isa emerges new chairman of IPPA

Mr. Abdulrazaq Isa, a general manager with Waltersmith Petroman Oil Limited, has been confirmed as the new chairman of the Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG) with effect from June 29, 2021.

He succeeds Mr. Ademola Adeyemi-Bero, who was the pioneer chairman of the group from July 2015, having served two terms, according to a statement.

The first leadership transition and handover event since the establishment of the IPPG took place on June 29, 2021 at the Waltersmith Head Office in Ikoyi, Lagos, which had in attendance members of the IPPG Board of Trustees and Governance Council.

The new chairman, who thanked his predecessor for putting in an excellent shift during his tenure, promised to take IPPG to greater heights and solicited the support of members to ensure that the group remained at the forefront of developing the Nigerian petroleum industry.

He said due to changing industry dynamics and key industry reforms, it was imperative for IPPG to remain well-positioned in order to contribute to the growth and development of the industry by playing a leading role in meeting the cardinal priorities of the administration’s agenda for the industry.

“IPPG remains committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders in nurturing a petroleum industry that can take its rightful place in the global space,” Isa said.

Established in 2015 to promote and advance the development of the Nigerian petroleum industry, IPPG is an association of indigenous exploration and production companies with a current membership of 23 companies, according to the statement.

“A healthy and vibrant oil and gas sector remains critical for the development of Nigeria and progressive indigenous producers are best placed to ensure greater linkages between the upstream oil and gas industry and the wider Nigerian Economy,” the immediate past chairman was quoted as saying.

Isa, who is General Manager, Refinery, at Waltersmith, is a Chemical Engineering graduate with a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Management from Coventry University, United Kingdom. He has over 10 years Oil & Gas, Health Safety and Environmental operational experience working in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Over his years working in the industry, he has delivered on the key projects in NNPC where he worked for the Port-Harcourt refinery as a process engineer. He set up a comprehensive Health Safety and Environment Risk Compliance Department in Waltersmith Petroman Oil Limited. Abdul also obtained the necessary operating licenses and developed the regulatory and compliance framework to establish a 5,000bopd topping plant for US$ 50miilion and implemented the Crude Export Offtake Framework for all Waltersmith entities.
