By Patience Chat Moses

Over the past years, the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) Regulatory   Accelerator scheme has been used to encourage effectiveness and efficiency and showcase exemplary performance among government regulatory agencies. Since its establishment in 2016, many agencies have aimed to top the rating scheme. This time around the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FANN) achieved a great feat by scoring 96.2 %.

Thirty-six (36) agencies across 14 ministries completed 876 of 1,187 activities to deliver measurable impacts across key sectors. The 120-Day PEBEC Regulatory Reform Accelerator evaluates MDAs’ implementation of reforms aimed at improving Nigeria’s business environment. In the past, FAAN scored third from the bottom in the Ease of Doing Business ratings. With the sheer determination of current FAAN Management, led by Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, FAAN transformed from zero to top performance. The Director of Special Duties, FAAN, Mr. Henry Agbebire, who oversees PEBEC for the Authority, said, “We took onboard all the significant reform initiatives of PEBEC. In alignment with our strategic goals, we will continue to improve our airport infrastructure and passengers’ experience.” Agbebire affirmed, “FAAN commits to sustaining reforms, achieving 100%, and addressing the remaining 3.8% as PEBEC prepares for another phase.”

To achieve these goals, FAAN developed new Service Legal Agreements benchmarked against leading international airports. Airports like Oliver Tambo Airport, CPH Airport Denmark, and the Airport Authority of India. It also upgraded airport internet speed, installed and managed CCTV systems, and implemented QR Codes for passengers.

Since her appointment, Mrs. Kuku has emphasized FAAN’s commitment to prioritizing passenger comfort, facilitation, and airport requirements.
