Born on March 3, 1967, in Ekeremor, Bayelsa State, Nigeria, Senator Lokpobiri pursued his early education with diligence and excellence. He attended Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Law. Furthering his academic pursuits, he obtained a Master’s degree in Environmental Management from the same institution.
Driven by a passion for learning and a commitment to academic excellence, Senator Lokpobiri earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Law from Leeds Beckett University in the United Kingdom. His doctoral research focused on the intersection of environmental sustainability and legal frameworks, a critical area for the petroleum industry.
Senator Lokpobiri’s political career began with his election to the Bayelsa State House of Assembly in 1999. His leadership qualities and dedication to public service quickly became evident, leading to his election as Speaker of the Assembly. In 2003, he transitioned to national politics, becoming a Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District.
During his tenure in the Senate, Senator Lokpobiri served as Chairman of several key committees, including the Senate Committee on Sports, the Senate Committee on Niger Delta, and the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals. His legislative contributions have been instrumental in shaping policies and initiatives aimed at fostering national development.
In recognition of his significant contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape and his expertise in environmental law, Senator Lokpobiri was appointed as the Honourable Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development in 2015. In this capacity, he championed agricultural reforms and policies designed to enhance food security and promote rural development.
In 2023, Senator Lokpobiri was appointed as the Honourable Minister of State (Oil), Petroleum Resources. In this critical role, he oversees the development and implementation of policies aimed at optimizing Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. His responsibilities include ensuring sustainable exploration and production practices, enhancing the sector’s regulatory framework, and promoting investments to boost economic growth.
