The Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, has taken a team of water engineers from the Kebbi State Water Board Service (KSWBS) to inspect a water project that the Commission embarked on in Yauri town of Kebbi State.
Yelwa said that the Commission has taken note of the communities that are affected by the ongoing expansion and construction of the dam, which when completed, would end the issues of water shortage currently experienced by the people of Yauri. He also assured of the Commission’s commitment to put an end to their suffering.
The Managing Director, who expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done in the area, attributed the good job to the engineers drafted by the Commission and the Kebbi State Water Board, who are providing technical support to the ongoing water project.
According to him, aside from ending water shortage, the project, when completed, would also put an end to water-borne diseases, as the people of Yauri will now get pipe-borne water for drinking and domestic work.
He explained that Yauri town and New Bussa were the towns completely resettled to allow for the construction of the Kainji Dam, with a pledge of pipe-borne water and electricity but the growing population could not allow such, which is why HYPADEC was created to bridge the gap in order to meet the water demands of the resettled communities.
The project, which has reached about 60 percent completion, is expected to be ready for inauguration by September 2023. It covers intake points state-of-the-art dry pumps, treatment plants, expansion of reticulation pipes with additional supply points, and rehabilitations of staff quarters, as well as office accommodations.
