The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has issued a notice to electricity consumers within its franchise area of an impending blackout from the month of June as a result of the accumulation of unpaid bills.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Company, Engr. Kingsley Achife.
In the statement, IBEDC revealed that it is planning to disconnect its feeders from the national grid as a result of poor remittances.
According to the Disco, consumers that will be affected by the development are those in Kwara, Ogun, Osun, Ibadan, Oyo and some parts of Kogi, Ekiti, as well as Niger states.
Engr. Achife said that the action might lead to power outages for power customers who are within IBEDC franchise areas, adding that as a revenue collection arm of the electricity value chain, the Company sells and distributes electricity generated by the generation companies, but it is unable to meet its financial obligations to the electricity value chain as a result of poor payment and huge outstanding bills by customers.
The MD urged customers to note that a failure to pay current and outstanding electricity bills may lead to the disruption of power supply to homes, communities, and businesses attached to “our network.”
