The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has said that it is expecting an increase of about 400,000 barrels per day from some mega projects that will help it to increase Nigeria’s volume of crude oil production.
It also stated that this will enable Nigeria to exceed the daily quota of 1.8 million barrels which has been given to the country by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
The Commission Chief Executive of NUPRC, Gbenga Komolafe, stated that the attempt to raise more volumes is expected to leverage the four major projects in Prowe, Owowo, Bonga North and Bonga Southwest, which were already yielding positive results.
In his Own words, “our core focus is how we can get the mega projects like the Prowe, Bonga North, the Bonga Southwest Aparo, and Owowo to major projects with combined volume of about 400,000 barrels per day.
“But having said that, we are very optimistic as a Commission that we have the capacity to attain and surpass our OPEC quota of the figures we just talked about through the intentional efforts that the Commission is making: engaging the investors.”
The CEO added that the Commission had inaugurated a committee that will help to brainstorm and provide additional volumes to enhance the national oil production quota.
“So we are engaging the operators to ensure that these projects come into fruition in real time basis.
“With all this happening and the current FDPs that have been approved we are very much optimistic that we will achieve and surpass our OPEC quota,” he concluded.
