President Muhammadu Buhari has taken a good decision that will help many Nigerians to actually come out and vote on the day of elections with out much hindrance.
According to Daily Post, ahead of the 2019 presidential election, President Muhammadu Buhari declared Friday, Public holiday. This was disclosed by Buhari’s Special Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmed on Twitter.
According to him, Friday was declared Work-Free day to enable Nigerians prepare for the rescheduled presidential and National Assembly election. The terse statement reads, “GOOD IDEA: The Federal Government has declared Friday as Work-Free Day to enable Nigerians prepare for the rescheduled Presidential and National Assembly Elections on Saturday.” It is expected that the public holiday will help Nigerians to come out en mass to vote on the day of election.
In another development, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama has issued a warning to the international community ahead of the general elections in Nigeria.Daily Post reports that Onyeama told the diplomatic community not to cross the line between advising Nigeria on good governance and dictating to the country how to govern.
Onyeama issued this warning, while briefing the diplomatic community on the rescheduled general elections, in the nation’s capital, Abuja. The meeting, which held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was to interact with the diplomatic corps, to clarify issues surrounding the postponement of the elections and the country’s readiness ahead of the general elections on Saturday, February 23.
In the run-up to the elections, the President Muhammadu Buhari government had on several occasions, raised concerns about what it described as interference from foreign bodies.
“At the end of the day, we are a sovereign nation and the line shouldn’t be crossed from exhorting us and wanting us to succeed and wanting this to be areally democratic process to dictating to us and really getting into the nitty-gritty of how we run the country which is exclusivelythe responsibility of this government,” Onyeama said.
