Super Tucano: NAF’s Newly Acquired Fighter Jet, Its Special Features

The Nigerian government has been spending a lot on procuring equipment to fight insurgency, consequently, the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force are being enforced with some updated weapons that will accord them more advantage against the insurgents.

About three years ago, the Nigeria government signed a deal with the United States government to procure 12 A-29 Super Tucano Fighter Jets to combat the insecurity challenges it is facing. Six of these jets arrived in Kano on Thursday and were received by some dignitaries which includes: Honourable Minister of Defence, Major-General Bashir Magashi (Rtd); Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao and Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Faruk Yahaya.

The remaining six of this A-29 Super Tucano Jets are expected to arrive before the end of the year.

1. It has two crew( one pilot and one navigator)

2. Five blades propellers

3. Maximum speed of 590km/h

4. Combat range of 550km

5. Endurance of 8 hours 24 minutes

6. Rate of climb of 3,230fit/min

7. Chaff and flares for countermeasures

8. Two machine guns, one under each wing with 1,100 round per minutes

9. It also have rocked

10. Missiles ( Air to Air and Air to Ground)
